After the recent sponsorship of surf kayaker, Rhiannon Woodman, we are pleased to reveal dates of her competition appearances for 2010.

10th - 11th April: Welsh competition
8th - 9th May: St Ives competition
20th - 24th May: France wave ski competition (TBC)
18th - 19th September: Thurso Scottish championships (TBC)
9th - 10th October: Irish open

Local entrepreneur and MD of Wilton Bradley Tony Bradley commented “Rhiannon has just finished 2nd in the world Kayak championships in Portugal and is a great ambassador for the sport and the brand. This important collaboration will assist in supporting Rhiannon in competition this year and the 2010 world championships in USA. ØRhiannon Woodman, 29, was a runner-up in the World Surf Kayak Championship in Santa Cruz, Portugal last week.
ØAs part of the Welsh Surf Team, she saw off competitors from 13 countries in the women’s high performance category.
ØShe also came fourth in the women’s individual competition, despite having no coach, no sponsorship and limited time to practise.
ØRhiannon, of Broadoaks Grange, Botcherby, said: “It’s a world-class competition with waves between 3ft and 12 feet high.”
ØShe added: “I was out in Portugal for about a week-and-a-half, competing against around 30 women in each category.”
ØSince she started surfing in Wales eight years ago, the shop manager has been hooked on the thrill of the waves.
ØShe spent £1,500 on her own kayak and even took a job out in Sunderland to help her stay close to the beach.
ØShe still teaches herself, despite competing against international professionals.
ØShe added: “I really enjoy doing it, so I like to go out and teach myself new moves.
Ø“It’s an adrenaline rush. I like the long drops and I surf better when the waves are really big.”
ØAfter this year’s championship success, she hopes to travel to the USA in 2010 to take part in the surfing world cup. She also plans to help make a DVD of stunts.
